{"id":1460,"date":"2023-07-17T12:01:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-17T12:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/silverstream-tech.com\/?post_type=news&#038;p=1460"},"modified":"2025-12-11T12:07:20","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T12:07:20","slug":"air-lubrication-reduces-underwater-radiated-noise-urn","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/silverstream-tech.cn\/en\/news\/air-lubrication-reduces-underwater-radiated-noise-urn\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Lubrication reduces underwater radiated noise (URN)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"container block-post-content\">\n    <div class=\"max-w-5xl flex flex-col gap-6 prose text-secondary !leading-[1.5] [&#038;_strong]:text-secondary [&#038;_p]:text-body [&#038;_p]:text-secondary [&#038;_p]:max-w-none [&#038;_p]:font-normal [&#038;_h2]:text-heading-2 [&#038;_h2]:font-semibold [&#038;_h2]:text-secondary [&#038;_h3]:text-heading-3 [&#038;_h3]:font-semibold [&#038;_h4]:text-heading-4 [&#038;_h5]:text-heading-5 [&#038;_blockquote_p]:text-secondary-light [&#038;_blockquote_p]:font-semibold\">\n    <?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Professor John Carlton &ndash; a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and Professor of Marine Engineering and Director of Maritime Studies at City, University of London &ndash; has published a new whitepaper analysing the impact of hull air lubrication on underwater radiated noise (URN),&nbsp;propulsion&nbsp;and cavitation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233118\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559740\":240}'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Focusing on URN, which has been, and continues to be, a key sustainability&#8239;issue for the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the whitepaper finds that &ldquo;the presence of air in the form of an air bubble- mixture around the hull, for example as generated by an air lubrication system, will significantly attenuate the transmission of noise from the ship into the sea environment.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Furthermore, the paper formulates that &ldquo;the presence of air in the propeller disc as introduced by an air lubrication system, rather than negatively affecting performance, attenuates higher harmonics of radiated pressure spectrum emitted by cavitating propeller (as well as helps in attenuating cavitation erosion).&rdquo;<\/span><span data-ccp-props='{\"134233118\":true,\"201341983\":0,\"335559740\":240}'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">It&#8239;is&#8239;our interpretation, based on the whitepaper&rsquo;s findings, that the Silverstream<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">&reg;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">&#8239;System reduces URN emissions&#8239;both&#8239;from the hull&#8239;and the propeller.
